Housing sales declined 5 per cent in the July-September quarter across the top eight cities due to a fall in new supply and sharp appreciation in prices, according to PropTiger. Real estate brokerage platform PropTiger.com, which is part of Australia's REA group that owns Housing.com, on Tuesday, released its report 'Real Insight' on India's residential market. A total of 96,544 units were sold in July-September, down 5 per cent from 1,01,221 units sold during the same period in 2023.

Under the Slum Prevention Programme, the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority will build 500,000 houses in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region over the next five years. Of this, 50,000 houses would be built over the next year, said metropolitan commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad. Under the SPP, 160 sq ft houses with attached toilets will be made available for a rent of between Rs 800 and Rs 1,500. The MMRDA had earmarked Rs 100 crore (Rs 1 billion) for the SPP.

Housing prices appreciated at an average of 10 per cent during the December quarter across eight major cities on strong demand, higher input cost, according to a report by CREDAI, Colliers and Liases Foras.
